Siya Simetu Club Cricket SA Player of the Week

University of Western Cape Cricket Club spin bowler Siya Simetu has secured December 2017’s opening Club Cricket SA Player of the Week award.

Simetu clinched remarkable match figures of 13 for 46 in 34 overs, including 16 maidens, in a key 2017-18 Western Province Cricket Association premier league victory over Victoria Cricket Club.

The left-arm spinner took seven for six in the first innings – and six for 40 in the second. He also contributed a valuable 30 down the order in the visitors’ first innings at Victoria Cricket Club.

The result pushed the University of Western Cape Cricket Club to second position in the 12-team WPCA premier league standings, while Victoria Cricket Club have slipped to 10th.

The 26-year-old Simetu narrowly beat Ottoman Cricket Club’s Sadiek Davids to this week’s accolade. Fellow spinner Davids gathered telling match figures of 11 for 30, former champions Western Province Cricket Club slipped to a surprise defeat at the Wally Wilson Oval.
