CPL assistant coaches: Razeen Allie joins Patriots, Geoff Dods to Sixers

Montrose Cricket Club’s Razeen Allie has been appointed assistant coach of the Peninsula Patriots for the 2021 edition of the Cape Premier League.

Allie will work alongside Patriots head coach Kuda Samunderu, as the CPL nears a late-September start.

The Patriots collected several players at late last month’s auction.

Lwando Tywaku was their most expensive purchase of 1.4 million CPL dollars – the tournament’s fictional currency.

Kraaifontein Cricket Club seamer Ishmail September, University of the Western Cape Cricket Club batsman Neo Mlumbi and Claremont Cricket Club all-rounder Kyle Klopper were among their other purchases.

What the Patriots said

Congratulations to Razeen, who has been appointed senior men’s assistant coach for the 2021 CPL,” read a statement from the team.

“His passion for the game is unmatched. His dedication and commitment to the community makes him the perfect candidate to help guide our unique group of players. Welcome aboard.

“The Patriots’ ethos of empowerment and opportunity for the marginalised has had them dubbed as ‘the people’s team’.”

The Patriots are one of two new additions to the CPL. The other is the West Coast Outlaws, who have former Montrose Cricket Club all-rounder Wayne Parnell as captain.

Dods to the Sixers

Cape Town Cricket Club’s Geoff Dods, meanwhile, has joined the District Sixers as assistant coach. He will work alongside new Sixers head coach and Cape Town Cricket Club team-mate William Hantam.

Dods previously held the same role at the Hoeri Kwaggo Bulls during the 2019 CPL.

CPL history

The Cape Vikings are the reigning CPL champions. They beat the Bulls in the inaugural final in 2019. The 2020 tournament didn’t happen amid the coronavirus pandemic.
