Former Dolphins and Lions fast bowler Craig Alexander has been contracted by Boland for the 2019-20 season.
Alexander was a key member of Delfos Cricket Club’s title-winning squad at the T20 Community Cup late last year – and previously represented Chatsworth Sporting Club in Durban and Mitchells Plain Cricket Club, Primrose Cricket Club and Hanover Park Cricket Club in Cape Town.
“Craig joins us at Boland after we lost Kyle Simmonds to KwaZulu-Natal Inland and Dayyaan Galiem to the Titans. David Bedingham also joined the Cape Cobras a while back,” Boland coach Henry Williams told Club Cricket SA.
“Galiem is a big loss with the bat, but I believe Craig is a better bowler than him – that’s my personal feeling. When Craig approached us to join us, I knew he would make a difference. He will fill the gaps well and the set of skills he brings with him will be good. I have no doubt he will perform for us.”
The 32-year-old Alexander played 39 first-class matches for the Lions, 30 for the Dolphins and several others for North West, Western Province and South Africa A.
“He has played franchise cricket – and I look forward to Craig showing the youngsters how to do it at the higher level. He is 32, yes, but I was the same age when I debuted for the Proteas, so it’s not such an old age,” added Williams, who played seven ODIs in 1999 and 2000.
“Craig will raise the game of the youngsters and his own game. I think we will have a magnificent bowling attack with the addition of Craig.”
