Cravenby Cricket Club dedicate promotion to WPCA first division A to Omar Sonday

Cravenby Cricket Club celebrated promotion to the 2025-26 Western Province Cricket Association first division A after effectively winning the 2024-25 first division B title this week.

Saturday, 22 February’s 50-run win over Kuils River Cricket Club consolidated Cravenby Cricket Club’s first position on the WPCA first division B points table with 76 points. They have 11 points more than second-placed Edgemead Cricket Club, who can reach a maximum of 75 points.

Cravenby have won 16 – 12 with bonus points – and lost one match this WPCA first division B season. They dedicated their title win to former chairman and life member Omar Sonday, who passed away in 2023.

“This has been an unbelievable team effort all round and in honour of the late Omar Sonday who is smiling from the heavens,” Cravenby Cricket Club chairman AK Sonday told Club Cricket SA.

“We’ve done it – first division b champions and promoted again. Every player gave their all and it paid off. From the hard-fought battles on the field to the countless hours of practice, we’ve shown what true teamwork and determination can achieve.

“A huge thank you to our executive committee, club members and supporters. This title win is a reflection of our spirit, commitment and Omar’s legacy will be forever etched in our hearts.”

Western Province batsmen Valentine Kitime and Yaseen Vallie – and former Cape Cobras fast bowler Francois Plaatjies – played for Cravenby Cricket Club this season.
