Cravenby Cricket Club’s first XI were named Most Sporting Team and Best Fielding Team at Saturday, 30 August’s Western Province Cricket Association awards ceremony for the 2024-25 season.
The awards capped a relatively successful season for Cravenby Cricket Club, who won the WPCA first division B title and have been promoted to the 2025-26 first division A.
“Congratulations to all the clubs, who are among the key stakeholders in cricket at Western Province. May you continue to grow from strength to strength,” said WPCA chief executive officer Corrie van Zyl.
WPCA president Johannes Adams added: “Cricket clubs are so important to Western Province cricket and we are proud of all the club’s and this season’s winners of the awards.”
Meanwhile, Bellville Cricket Club were named WPCA Club of the Year.
Bellville Cricket Club beat fellow WPCA Club of the Year contenders Cravenby Cricket Club, Edgemead Cricket Club, Yorkshire Cricket Club and the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club to the award.
“This award is given to the club with a very good administrative record and league performances are taken into consideration. And, if a club was involved in a disciplinary committee hearing during the season ,they are automatically disqualified from contention for this award,” read a statement from the WPCA.
