Brackenfell Cricket Club seamer Mpilo Njoloza will be named Provincial One-Day Cricketer of the Year at the Cricket South Africa awards in Pretoria on Saturday.
“The Western Province left-arm seamer topped the wickets table [in the CSA One-Day Challenge] with 24 wickets in eight matches at 4.43 runs per over, for an average of 13.45,’ stated an excerpt from CSA’s awards booklet.
“His performance was all the more special when considering that many of his rivals played 10 matches. He claimed two five-fors, including a career-best five for 26 – and struck every 18.2 deliveries.
“In a format that has heavily favoured batsmen in recent years, Mpilo has restored some balance between bat and ball.”
The Western Province Cricket Association named Njoloza First-Class Player of the Year two months ago.
At Brackenfell Cricket Club
When not playing provincial cricket, Njoloza represented Brackenfell Cricket Club in the 2018-19 premier league.
The talented left-hander took 22 wickets in 14 matches, according to WebSports.
Brackenfell Cricket Club, meanwhile, recently recruited Cape Cobras all-rounder George Linde from Durbanville Cricket Club. Seamer Brandon Viret has also left Durbanville Cricket Club.
