Cricket Tasmania have confirmed the appointment of South African Michael Smith as assistant coach – batting.
Smith was head coach of the Tuskers in division two of provincial cricket in South Africa before becoming batting coach at the Lions in division one. He left the Lions earlier this month to relocate to Tasmania in Australia.
Smith has also worked with the Karachi Kings and Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League.
“We are really excited by Michael’s appointment,” said Cricket Tasmania general manager of high performance Salliann Beams.
“It is good to have someone of his calibre and experience joining our program.
“We’ve obviously had a period of transition for both the players and staff, which has been challenging. As head coach Jeff Vaughan often says, we’re all about finding the right people to fit the roles we have available, whether they be on-field or off-field roles.”
Smith’s tenure with Tasmania will start on 31 July 2023.
