CSA explain Warriors’ breach and forfeit: Warriors failed to meet stipulated transformation requirements

The Dolphins, not the Warriors, will play Wednesday’s One-Day Cup, division one, qualifier against the Titans in Durban.

The Warriors ended the first stage of the tournament in second position last week.

However, they have since moved to fourth position after failing to field enough black African players in the XI for 16 February’s fixture against the Dolphins in Durban.

The Warriors named all-rounder Andile Mokgakane and wicketkeeper-batsman Sinethemba Qeshile in the XI for that match at Kingsmead.

Cricket South Africa, however, require a minimum of six players of colour – three must be Black African – per XI. The Warriors beat the Dolphins, but ultimately were not allocated the points.

“The Warriors will lose their spot in the One-Day play-off after being docked match points due to a breach of the CSA administrative conditions,” read Monday’s statement from CSA.

“Following a comprehensive review and investigation, the CSA board has determined that the Warriors failed to meet the stipulated transformation requirements during their match on 16 February 2025 against the Dolphins in Durban.

“The breach pertained specifically to clause 3.2.2 of the CSA administrative conditions, which requires teams to field a minimum of three black African players in the starting XI.

“The sanctions imposed include loss of match points. Thus, Warriors will forfeit all match points for the match in question and Dolphins will be awarded four match points from the fixture. However, no bonus points will be allocated.

“A monetary fine has also been included, with 50 percent payable before the end of the current financial year. The remaining 50 percent will be suspended for five years and will only be activated if a similar breach occurs within that period.

“As a direct consequence of this sanction, Warriors will no longer qualify for the One-Day Cup play-off, altering the competition’s final standings. Dolphins now move to second place on the log and will host the Titans in the play-off on Wednesday.”

The winner of Wednesday’s qualifier at Kingsmead will meet Boland in Saturday’s final in Paarl.

Western Province are the reigning One-Day Cup, division one, champions. However, they ended this season’s tournament at the bottom of the points table.
