Cricket South Africa have invited more local and international players to register for the new T20 league, which is scheduled to start early next year.
The closing date for registrations is 28 August 2022 at 5pm South African standard time.
The first edition of the tournament will feature six teams, which are all owned by companies that also own Indian Premier League franchises.
Earlier this month, several Proteas and South African domestic cricketers were signed among the Paarl Royals, MI Cape Town and four other teams. This week, CSA invited more to register for the player auction, which will likely happen in September 2022.
Definition of overseas and South African players
“The SAT20 league has opened its registration process to receive interest from South African and overseas players to participate in the new competition,” read a statement from CSA.
“An overseas player is defined as a player who holds only a non-South African passport and who is not eligible, under International Cricket Council regulations, to play for South Africa.
“A South African player is one who is eligible and available to play for South Africa. This may include those players currently contracted to play either at national or provincial level, whether in South Africa or abroad.
“Some franchises have already announced their pre-auction signings.. As they look to build their roster, the league will facilitate this through a structured and transparent open auction process.”
How overseas and SA players can register
“Interested South African players can register through the South African Cricketers’ Association in accordance with the process agreed with SACA,” said CSA.
“Overseas players will need to register through the CSA website via the relevant SA T20 League registration link on the site.”
