Cricket South Africa will reintroduce the national convenor of selection role this year.

The role has not been occupied since former convenor of selection Victor Mpitsang’s exit in 2023. CSA’s Linda Zondi held the post before Mpitsang.

Since Mpitsang’s exit, Test coach Shukri Conrad and limited-overs coach Rob Walter selected the teams.

Walter resigned last month and, this week, Conrad was appointed Test, ODI and T20I head coach.

“Conrad, who has led the Test side since January 2023, will now take charge of the white-ball formats starting with the T20 International tri-series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand in July,” said CSA.

“The 58-year-old will oversee the national team across all formats through to the Cricket World Cup in 2027, which will be hosted on home soil.

“This appointment forms part of CSA’s broader restructuring of the national team strategy, which includes the reintroduction of a national convenor of selection.

“The successful candidate will serve as convenor of selection for Proteas Men, SA A and high-performance monitored squads, oversee the selection process, manage the selection panels, ensure transparent and objective player selection decisions, and maintain communication with coaches and players at national and domestic professional levels.

“In addition to striving to select winning and representative national teams, the candidate will be required to attend scheduled national pathway selection panel meetings and pathway programmes as needed from time to time. Diversity will be a strong consideration when making an appointment.”

The convenor of selection will report to CSA director of national teams and high performance Enoch Nkwe.
