Cricket South Africa have suspended Northern Cape’s Andrew Rasemene and KwaZulu-Natal Inland’s Malcolm Nofal.
Nofal and Rasemene were reported after 8 December 2022’s One Day Cup division two fixture at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley.
“This as a result of a disciplinary report lodged by the umpires Jurie Sadler and Roderick Ellis for an alleged breach of clause 6.3.1 and clause 6.5.1 of the code of conduct, respectively. A video clip of the incident was also provided as evidence,” read a statement from CSA.
“Rasemene’s breach of the code of conduct relates to a level 4 charge under clause 6.5.1: Physical assault of another Participant or spectator.
“Nofal’s breach of the code of conduct relates to a level 2 charge under clause 6.3.1: Inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play.
“The sanction for a level 4 offence is a suspension of five first-class matches, alternatively 10 one-day/T20 matches – or a life ban for the participant concerned.
“The penalty for a level 2 offence is a suspension for one first-class match, alternatively two one-day/T20 matches – and/or a fine the equivalent of between 50 and 100 percent of the current pay for play match fee in the relevant format.”
Nofal banned for one match, Rasemene two
Nofal and Rasemene admitted to the charges and accepted the sanctions proposed by CSA disciplinary commissioner Rian Cloete.
“The sanction stipulates that Nofal will be ineligible for selection in the upcoming 4-Day Domestic Series match against Border,” added CSA.
“Meanwhile, Rasemene will be ineligible for selection for the forthcoming 4-Day Domestic Series matches against South Western Districts and Easterns.”
