Cricket South Africa have confirmed two players tested positive for the coronavirus ahead of this month’s team camp in Skukuza.
CSA did not disclose the names of the players.
“Cricket South Africa can confirm that 50 Covid-19 tests were performed on players and support staff prior to attending the Proteas men’s team culture camp,”, read Thursday’s statement from CSA.
“The testing is in line with fulfilling the organisation’s obligation and commitment to control the spread of the virus.
“Two players have returned positive tests. They will, unfortunately, miss the camp as they have started the isolation protocol. While both players are asymptomatic, CSA’s medical team will continue to regularly follow up with them to ensure their health and wellbeing.
“There were no replacements made for the two players who tested positive. All those unable to attend the camp will join the proceedings virtually.”
Former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis, who is expecting the birth of a second child, is not involved in the camp. Batsman Theunis de Bruyn has since joined.
Seamers Sisanda Magala and Glenton Stuurman, wicketkeeper-batsman Rudi Second and batsman Keegan Petersen – who have not been capped at international level – are part of the camp.
