Former Cape Cobras and Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Dane Vilas has applied for the vacant Western Province Cricket Association chief executive officer position.

Former WPCA CEO Michael Canterbury’s tenure ended earlier this year.

WPCA president Johannes Adams wants to appoint Canterbury’s successor by the end of next month.

“Yes, absolutely I’ve applied and submitted my CV after having chats with a couple of people. I was at WP for seven happy years and would like to make things better,” Vilas told Rapport.

“We live in South London, so I’m also doing some work helping Wimbledon Cricket Club and their director of cricket with their cricket operations.

“I’m also doing consultancy work in media, image and broadcast rights to Pitch – a London-based sports marketing consultancy with a global reach.”

Dolphins Cricket chief executive officer Heinrich Strydom is reportedly in contention to succeed Canterbury, too.
