Western Province’s Daniel Smith was among the six players signed to rookie contracts during Tuesday’s player auction for next year’s SA20.
Easterns’ Dewan Marais joined the Sunrisers Eastern Cape on a rookie contract, while Dolphins seamer Tristan Luus joined MI Cape Town.
The Warriors’ JP King and CJ King joined the Joburg Super Kings and Durban’s Super Giants, respectively.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Keagan Lion-Cachet, who represented South Africa at the African Games in Ghana earlier this year, was acquired by the Pretoria Capitals.
“The rookie element has been a lovely value add, in terms of the pathway and opportunities. We saw a lot of rookies retained in initial squads this year,” said SA20 league commissioner Graeme Smith.
“If you look at the squads in general, there are a number of young players on board. We have seen some of those start the domestic competitions well.
“They will now get the opportunity to play against and learn from the best players in the world.”
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the reigning SA20 champions. They will play MI Cape Town in the first match of the 2025 SA20 on 9 January.
