Batsman David Bedingham has been included in Western Province’s squad for South Africa’s 2021-22 domestic season.
Bedingham left the Cape Cobras during the latter half of the 2020-21 season to join Durham in English county cricket.
He is currently playing for them in the County Championship – and recently struck 57 and 180 not out against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
Former Proteas batsman Hashim Amla, seamer Vernon Philander and all-rounder Wayne Parnell are also in the squad.
“We are proud to have attracted some of Cape Town’s greatest homegrown and adopted sons back to Newlands,” said Western Province Cricket Association interim chief executive officer Tennyson Botes.
Western Province have been placed among the top tier of the country’s new domestic structure, which will return to provincial rather than franchise competition.
“As we go into a new era of domestic cricket, we know that their experience will be invaluable to the young talent, which continues to come through our development pipelines, as we continue our success in producing players for the Proteas,” added Botes.
“The valuable combination of experience and youth will be the perfect tonic for when we welcome back our supporters. We look forward to the season ahead.”
