Captain David Miller has praised Paarl Royals batsman Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who is the leading run-score in the ongoing SA20.
Pretorius has hit half-centuries against the Sunrisers Cape Town and MI Cape Town – and collected public praise from former Proteas batsman Herschelle Gibbs and England captain Ben Stokes as well.
“Lhuan-dre is a phenomenal talent, really special to have him in the team,” said Miller.
“There’s been a lot of young players that have come through the years, and I just think he’s something very special. I haven’t seen a lot of young players play the way that he does.
“The free flow, the back flow. He plays very late, he plays short balls really well, plays spin well. And yeah, I mean, he’s actually a really good thinker about the game.
“So it’s great to have him part of the set-up and obviously contributing and putting in match-winning performances for us. So very, very lucky to have him.”
Pretorius, like Paarl Royals team-mate Kwena Maphaka, is 18 years old. They recently matriculated from St Stithians College and Cornwall Hill College, respectively.
“I was more nervous on the bus, because we got our results before we played MI Cape Town at Newlands,” said Pretorius.
“I was more stressed about getting the results than the actual game.”
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the reigning SA20 champions. They won the inaugural title in 2023 and 2024.
