Former Proteas captain Dean Elgar has signed a three-year contract with Essex in English county cricket.

Elgar retired from international cricket earlier this year. He played 86 Tests and eight ODIs from 2012 to 2024.

“I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter of my cricketing journey with Essex,” said Elgar.

“The club have been pushing for honours in recent years and I’m eager to contribute to further success.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my previous experiences in county cricket and I’m really looking forward to joining up with the squad ahead of season.”

Elgar has previously represented Somerset and Surrey in the County Championship.
