Dewald Botha, Matt Olsen win prestigious CTCC awards

All-rounder Dewald Botha won three trophies at Cape Town Cricket Club’s 2021-22 season awards late last week.

Botha won the Boon Wallace Memorial Cup as Cape Town Cricket Club’s Cricketer of the Year. He also claimed the Dr Louis Bosman Cup for the most runs in the first XI and Tom Main Game-Changer Trophy.

Spinner Matthew Olsen clinched the President’s Cup, which is “widely known as the most prestigious award at Cape Town Cricket Club and awarded – annually – to the club member who has displayed exceptional and meritorious service over several years.”

Olsen recently reached 600 wickets for Cape Town Cricket Club’s first XI. The milestone arrived during his 282nd first XI match for the club. He has played first XI cricket for more than 20 years.

Fast bowler Brendan Young retained the Dr Lous Bosman Cup for the most wickets in the first team.

Overseas recruit Billy Mead won the Mick Commaille Trophy as the best fielder in the first XI.

Cape Town Cricket Club finished in eighth position at the end of the 2021-22 WPCA premier league, which comprised 11 teams. They won eight and lost 11 matches. Six of their victories came with bonus points.
