South Africa A star Dewald Brevis praised fellow all-rounder Beyers Swanepoel after Sunday’s four-wicket win in the limited-over series opener in Pallekele.
Brevis struck 98 not out from 71 deliveries as South Africa A successfully pursued a 265-run target with 53 deliveries to spare.
“My first innings in Sri Lanka, I really enjoy it here. There was a bit of pressure when I came in, but we had an alright start, so I just told myself to bat for a long time,” said Brevis.
“I knew there would be a lot of spin, so I prepared myself for that. I just tried to pace it. The players and I, out there, spoke about it that the spinners would search a bit more, and that would give us more bad balls.”
Brevis shared an unbeaten 113-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Swanepoel, after South Africa A slipped to 155 for six.
“When Beyers came in, he played beautifully, he took a lot of pressure off me when I was out there. We played well together to take it over the line for the team,” added Brevis.
Swanepoel was a late addition to the South Africa A squad. He replaced the injured Corbin Bosch.
South Africa A and Sri Lanka A will meet for two more limited-overs fixtures in Pallekele before contesting two four-day fixtures in Hambantota.
