Batsman Jesse Christensen has moved from the Hoeri Kwaggo Bulls to the District Sixers for the 2022 Cape Premier League.
The Sixers bought Christensen for 1.2 million CPL dollars – the tournament’s fictional currency.
The Sixers, too, have announced the retention of batsmen Givon Christian, Daniel Smith and Derek Mitchell – and fast bowlers Darren Rolfe and Wesley Bedja.
Christian and Smith were among the leading run-scorers in the 2021 CPL, while Rolfe was one of the top wicket-takers.
District Sixers’ retained players
- Daniel Smith
- Wesley Bedja
- Darren Rolfe
- Derek Mitchell
- Givon Christian
- Lehan Botha
The Sixers have lost batsmen Matthew Christensen and Josh Chippendale. Christensen and Chippendale have been contracted by South Western Districts and the Warriors, respectively, ahead of South Africa’s 2022-23 domestic season.
The Devil’s Peak Dragons are the reigning CPL champions. They beat the Atlantic Pirates in October 2021’s final.
The Cape Vikings won the inaugural title in 2019, after beating the Hoeri Kwaggo Bulls in the final. The tournament was not played in 2020.
