“Harmer enters season four in red-hot form. The 36-year-old was in phenomenal form with the Proteas Test side. He claimed six for 50 in the second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi to drive the Proteas to their first Test win there for 18 years,” read a statement from the SA20.

“In the process, he claimed his 1000th first-class wicket. But that was only the appetiser with Harmer delivering the best performance of his career during the subsequent India series.

“He claimed 17 wickets at an astonishing average of 8.94 across the two-match series – shattering Dale Steyn’s record for most wickets by a South African in an Indian series.

Harmer has joined the DSG squad as a partial replacement for West Indies spinner Sunil Narine, who is currently with the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates.

“Narine will arrive at Kingsmead for his maiden SA20 season after completing his commitments elsewhere,” continued the statement from the SA20.
