Durbanville Cricket Club won the Club of the Year, Fielding Team of the Year and Team of the Year trophies at the 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association awards at Newlands on Saturday, 8 June.
Durbanville Cricket Club won the WPCA premier league in Cape Town – and National Club Championship in Pretoria – earlier this year. They beat fellow nominees Brackenfell Cricket Club, Bellville Cricket Club, Strandfontein Cricket Club and Rylands Cricket Club to the Club of the Year award.
The Club of the Year trophy was not awarded last year, after the drought in Western Cape and surrounds curtailed the 2017-18 season. The University of Cape Town Cricket Club and Elsies River Cricket Club won the award in 2016-17 and 2015-16, respectively.
Saturday also saw Durbanville Cricket Club’s Mannie Senger allocated the Coach of the Year award. Strandfontein Cricket Club, who have been promoted from the first division A to 2019-20 premier league, were named the Most Sporting Team of the Year.
Brackenfell Cricket Club left-arm seamer Mpilo Njoloza was named the First-Class Player of the Year. University of the Western Cape batsman Mujaahid Toffar won the the Academy Player of the Year.
