Durbanville Cricket Club secure National Club Championship play-off berth with 2024-25 WPCA premier league title

Durbanville Cricket Club won the 2024-25 Western Province Cricket Association premier league title on 22 March.

First-placed Durbanville Cricket Club and second-placed Western Province Cricket Club ended this season’s WPCA premier league points table with 81 each. They both won 17 matches. Durbanville Cricket Club collected one more bonus-point victory than Western Province Cricket Club.

Durbanville Cricket Club’s 17 victories included 11 in succession from 11 January to 22 February.

Seamers Tashwin Lukas and Jody Lawrence – and spinner Brad Petersen – were their top wicket-takers.

Batsmen Fritz de Beer, Ruben Senekal and Daniel Lategan were their top run-scorers.

This is Durbanville Cricket Club’s third WPCA premier league title in seven seasons. They also won this season’s T20 Community Cup title.

Rondebosch Cricket Club, who were the reigning champions, ended the 2024-25 season in third position.

Claremont Cricket Club, who won the title before Rondebosch Cricket Club, ended this season in eighth position.

Durbanville Cricket Club, South Western Districts Cricket premier league champions Union Stars Cricket Club and Boland Cricket premier league champions Stellenbosch University Cricket Club (Maties) will contest next week’s National Club Championship play-off fixtures.

The winner of the play-off will represent the Western Cape at the National Club Championship in September 2025.

The University of Pretoria Cricket Club (Tuks) are the reigning National Club Championship title holders.

Prior to 2024’s return, the National Club Championship had not been held since 2019.

Durbanville Cricket Club won the National Club Championship title in 2019. Only two non-university cricket clubs have won the National Club Championship since 2010. KwaZulu-Natal’s Crusaders Cricket Club won the tournament in 2015. Current Western Province all-rounder Kyle Simmonds was playing for Crusaders Cricket Club at the time.
