Eastern Province Cricket have proposed the cancellation of the 2020-21 club cricket season.
The proposal comes amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic around South Africa and the rest of the world.
“The combined committees of the cricket committee and audit and risk committee unanimously proposed to cancel all amateur cricket under the jurisdiction of EP Cricket for the rest of the 2020-21 season,” read this week’s statement from EPC audit and risk committee chairman Winston Simpson.
“The risk of the Covid-19 pandemic and the lack of funding to ensure that the safety protocols and personal protective equipment are available to all players were the main concern.
“The safety of the umpires and scorers were an added risk discussed and deliberated on.”
The Western Province Cricket Association 2020-21 club season, meanwhile, has been cancelled.
The KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union have delayed the start of the 2020-21 club season to early March.
