Edgemead Cricket Club appoint Linton Phillips new WPCA first division B head coach

Edgemead Cricket Club have hired former Tygerberg Cricket Club head coach Linton Phillips ahead of the 2023-24 Western Province Cricket Association first division B.

Phillips has succeeded former Edgemead Cricket Club head coach Paul Phillipson.

“I enjoyed my time at Edgemead Cricket Club back in the day as a player. It’s good to be going back with new opportunities and challenges,” Phillips told Club Cricket SA.

“I’m excited to work with the players and I’m thankful to Edgemead Cricket Club for this opportunity. I’m keen to help the players with their goal of winning promotion to the WPCA first division A.”

Phillips was Tygerberg Cricket Club head coach for two seasons. They won the 2021-22 Ama20 Competition first division A title during Phillips’ tenure.

“I’m grateful to Tygerberg Cricket Club for allowing me the opportunity to be their head coach,” added Phillips.

“It was two years of great excitement and success – winning the Ama20 Competition title, finishing in the top half of the table for two season and more. I think Tygerberg Cricket Club is in a great position. There is loads of young talent within the club. The club is destined to go to the next level.

“I wish the new coach all the best. He is going to work with a great group of guys, who are ready to take the club to the WPCA premier league.”

Edgemead Cricket Club chairman Lawrie Snyders concluded: “Linton is a former member from some years ago.

“He brings with him loads of experience and I am sure that he will be able to bring a positive approach to the club.

“We welcome Linton to the Edgemead family and look forward, with enthusiasm, to the upcoming cricket season.”
