The Texas Super Kings have signed South African trio Faf du Plessis, David Miller and Gerald Coetzee for next month’s inaugural edition of Major League Cricket in the United States of America.
Former Dolphins batsman Cody Chetty, who has permanently relocated to the USA, has also been recruited by Texas. Chetty played for the Hollywood Master Blasters in last year’s edition of the Minor League Cricket Championship.
Earlier this week, Texas named former Proteas all-rounders Eric Simons and Albie Morkel assistant coaches. Fellow South African Greg King has been named Texas’ strength and conditioning coach.
Simons, Morkel and King have longstanding working relationships with the Chennai Super Kings franchise, who own the Texas Super Kings. Du Plessis played for Chennai for an extended period in the Indian Premier League before joining the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The opening season of Major League Cricket is scheduled to start on 13 July 2023. It will comprise six teams.
