Former Springboks fullback Russell Bennett has been added to South Africa’s squad for this month’s Over-50 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

Bennett played six Test matches in 1997 – and scored two tries.

“Bennett and Border stalwart Andrew Emslie have been added to the squad. Lefty Ngece has withdrawn due to personal reasons. Faldie Abderouf has withdrawn due to a recurring ankle injury,” read a statement from the Veterans Cricket Association of South Africa.

South Africa, who have former Proteas seamer Tyron Henderson, have been pooled with the West Indies, Australia, Wales, India, Pakistan and Canada for the tournament.

The United Arab Emirates, United States of America, England, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Sri Lanka are the other seven in this year’s 14-team Over-50 World Cup.

England Over-50 are the reigning champions. They beat South Africa in 2023’s final.
