Former Cape Cobras and Lions batsman Omphile Ramela has been named Border chief executive officer.
Ramela’s tenure will start on 2 May 2023.
Ramela has effectively succeeded former Border CEO Andile Mxenge, who was fired in June 2022. Interim CEO John Korkie held the position since early September 2022.
“My primary aims are to get Border into division one, increase the talent flow and stabilise the Border administration,” Ramela told Rapport.
Ramela has been given a five-year contract – and will be involved in the appointment of a new head coach. Former Proteas spinner Paul Adams has not been reappointed Border head coach.
Ramela has previously worked as the South African Cricketers’ Association president.
What Border Cricket said
“Ramela comes with a good cricket pedigree, having been exposed to both the technical and administrative sides of the game,” said Border Cricket president Simphiwe Ndzundzu.
“We believe his Ramela experience is fundamental to position Border Cricket at the forefront of talent development and commercial sustainability. The position will include the critical role of directing cricket in the region.”
