SWD appoint Gurshwin Rabie assistant coach

South Western Districts have named former Cape Cobras seamer Gurshwin Rabie assistant coach ahead of South Africa’s 2021-22 domestic season.

Rabie has succeed former SWD assistant coach Jason Maswanganyi, who was appointed in May 2021 but has since accepted a role at Easterns.

Rabie will work alongside SWD head coach Alan Kruger.

SWD have been placed in division two of the country’s new domestic structure, which has returned to top-tier provincial cricket. Franchise competition has been dissolved.

What SWD Cricket CEO Albertus Kennedy said

“We are extremely grateful to have Gurshwin as part of our professional coaching structure in our ambitions to be elevated to the first division in 2023,” said .

Gurshwin’s coaching career has progressed in a positive direction since his playing days and we are looking forward with high expectations for his contribution at SWD.

“Upon conclusion of his playing career, he pursued a career in coaching. After being at the helm of the SWD Academy and Under-19 team for two years, he moved to Newlands.”

What the Western Province Cricket Association said

“We thank Gurshwin for his service to WP Cricket and wish him well as he takes up the assistant coach role at SWD. Rabie was the Academy & Under-19 coach. He was also the coach of the Cubs and Colts teams that won both the national franchise Cubs and Colts tournaments,” added WPCA.
