Batsman Bonga Makaka has joined Rylands Cricket Club for the remainder of the 2024-25 Western Province Cricket Association first division A.
Makaka previously played for Rondebosch Cricket Club in the WPCA premier league before moving to the University of Johannesburg Cricket Club in Gauteng. He has since returned to Cape Town.
Makaka was capped nine times at first-class level by Western Province from 2018 to 2021 – and has played for South Africa Under-19.
“We welcome Bonga into our family and community. We look forward to seeing Bonga in action during the next few months and are excited to have him with us,” read a statement from Rylands Cricket Club.

Rylands Cricket Club were relegated to the WPCA first division A after ending the 2023-24 premier league in last position with six wins and 16 defeats.
They have also signed spinner Shaheed Abader from United Cricket Club, batsman Divesh Gihwala from Avendale Cricket Club and seamer Kurt Sias from Vikings Cricket Club.
Former Khayelitsha Cricket Club batsman Siyabonga Venge has also joined Rylands Cricket Club.
Batsman Jack Newby has succeeded wicketkeeper-batsman Taariq Chiecktey as Rylands Cricket Club captain.
