Former Free State and Knights batsman Andries Gous has reiterated ambition to play for the United States of America at this year’s T20 World Cup.
Gous played first-class cricket in South Africa from 2012 to 2020 before relocating to the USA in 2021.
He has since played for the Seattle Thunderbolts and Dallas Mustangs in the Minor League Cricket Championship – and Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket.
Gous is currently with the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates – and recently hit 95 not out against the Desert Vipers. Gous also played for the Samp Army in last year’s Abu Dhabi T10.
“If that opportunity arises, it’s always been a dream of mine to play international cricket, firstly, and secondly, to play at a World Cup,” Gous told MLC Network.
“I think that’s every cricketer’s dream, to play at a World Cup – really testing yourself against the best in the world.
“Just seeing the pool that USA is in, you’re definitely going to be testing yourself against the best in the world.
“It will be really awesome to play for USA, if we get the chance. We’ve still got to first make the side, but if the opportunity arises, it’s something that I’ll definitely take with both hands.”
