Former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Kruger van Wyk has been appointed new head coach of the University of Pretoria Cricket Club.

Van Wyk will succeed the outgoing Pierre de Bruyn, who has accepted a coaching post in Leicestershire, England.

Tuks are the reigning Northerns Cricket Union T20 Club Competition champions – and clinched the National Club Championship title in 2014 before being dethroned by KwaZulu-Natal’s Crusaders Cricket Club last year.

Born in South Africa, van Wyk played nine Tests for New Zealand in 2012, before retiring from professional cricket in December 2015.

The 36-year-old will also serve as the University of Pretoria Cricket Club’s technical director and head of cricket.

“While it always a tough decision, I feel the time is right to take on an opportunity outside of playing the game, working as Director of Cricket at Pretoria’s Tuks Cricket Academy,” he said.
