“I’m super excited to be joining the Lions family. It is even better now to be going back to the Wanderers in a coaching capacity – many years later and adding value to a very exciting Lions bowling outfit,” said Donald.

“I look forward to sharing my thoughts, values and experiences spanning many years of playing and also coaching at the highest level.”

Donald will work alongside former Proteas head coach Russell Domingo and former Proteas batsman Hashim Amla at the Lions. Domingo and Amla joined the Lions as head coach and batting coach, respectively, earlier this year.

“It will be terrific to be back with Russell Domingo and Hashim Amla. I shared a dressing room with them for four years under the Proteas. Another awesome challenge and journey awaits.”

Lions chief executive officer Jono Leaf-Wright added: “Allan Donald needs no introduction, nor does he need a justification as to why it is our honour to have him join our pride.

“The powerhouse former Protea brings with him immense skill, patience, commendable coaching experience and he is an all-round good guy that will bolster our bowling attack significantly.”
