Former Proteas cricketers Clive Eksteen, Alan Dawson and Louis Koen have been included in South Africa’s squad for this year’s Over0-50 World Cup.

Koen, who played five ODIs from 1997 to 2000, and Dawson, who played two Tests in 2003, have represented South Africa Over-50 previously.

Eksteen, who played seven Tests and six ODIs from 1991 to 2000, is a new addition for South Africa Over-50.

“The team will be captained by former Proteas and 2020 Proteas Veterans cricketer Louis Koen, while Mario Solomons will be the vice-captain,” read a statement from the Veterans Cricket Association of South Africa.

“The South African team includes several members of the Proteas Veterans team that did duty at the 2020 Over-50 World Cup in Cape Town – Koen, Mlungsi Ngece, Alan Dawson and Bruce Wilson – while former Proteas spinner Clive Eksteen has also been selected.”

Saleem Mukuddem in SA Over-50 squad, too

Former Bermuda all-rounder and current Rylands Cricket Club chairman Saleem Mukuddem has also been included in the South Africa Over-50 squad.

“Never ever in a million years did I ever think or believe that I would see my name on a team sheet for an official South African cricket team,” Mukuddem wrote on social media.

“Funny how history repeats itself. I said the same thing when I represented Bermuda at the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.”

The 2023 Over-50 World Cup will be played in Cape Town from 6 to 20 March.
