Hanover Park Cricket Club‘s 2015-16 Western Province Cricket Association second division campaign received a boost recently, when former South Africa spinner Omar Henry consulted with – and mentored – the squad.

Henry played three Tests and three ODIs in the early 1990s, including one match against Sri Lanka during the 1992 World Cup.

“Omar is notable for being the first non-white player of the modern era to play cricket for South Africa. He came to the first team practice session to provide the team with some valuable tips,” read a brief statement from the club.

Hanover Park Cricket Club are accompanied by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Peninsula, South Peninsula, Heideveld, Raithby, Phillipi, Delft, Samora Machel, Kensington and Dunoon Cricket Clubs in the second division.

HCC’s first XI are brimming with confidence after a comfortable triumph over Raithby Cricket Club earlier this month. Their next fixture is against Cape Peninsula University of Technology on 24 October 2015.
