Western Province Cricket Association first division A club, United Cricket Club, are in mourning after the murder of former player JP Enslin last week.
Enslin was shot in the back while trying to run away from robbers in Cape Town’s CBD on Thursday evening.
“The United Cricket Club family has been hit by terrible news. One of our former playing members, JP Enslin, has tragically passed away,” read a statement from the club.
“JP played in the third XI in the 2013-14 season. He made his debut against Primrose Cricket Club. He scored 70 and 38 not out and took nine wickets in one innings. He progressed to play in the second team and played for a few seasons.
“He made his first team debut against Bellville Cricket Club. He didn’t have the greatest game and got smashed to all parts of the ground. He played for a season in the United Kingdom.
“He was a religious guy of sober habits – and a pleasure to have in our team. He will be missed. Condolences to his family and all those who played with him.”
