Former Montrose Cricket Club, University of the Western Cape Cricket Club and Milnerton Cricket Club batsman Sharn Gomes played for Portugal in the European Cricket Championship recently.
Gomes was the ongoing tournament’s leading run-scorer at the time of writing. He had struck 349 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 192.81 and an average of 58.16.
He was particularly impressive with half-centuries against Austria, Hungary, Romania and the Netherlands XI.

- 78 not out from 28 balls v Hungary
- 67 not out from 33 balls v Austria
- 59 from 28 balls v Netherlands XI
- 57 from 27 balls v Romania
“It was good to get some runs and bat through the innings. We had been asking for someone to do that and it was good to do that for the team,” said Gomes.
“It’s great to be part of this event, which is well organised and good to play in. The T10 format is still quite new to a lot of us, so we are adapting.”
Ryan Klein playing for Netherlands XI
Western Province Cricket Club all-rounder Ryan Klein is playing for the Netherlands XI. He had taken eight wickets in nine appearances, as of 25 September 2021.
Klein debuted for Nerthlands A recently. He, however, was not named in the Netherlands’ squad for this year’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
