Friday laugh: International cricketer gets some sleep… in stranger’s car

Big night out after a particularly pleasing victory; inability to find our way home thereafter – a lot of club cricketers have probably been there, to some wayward extent or another.

Well, former Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor typified this cheerful scenario earlier this week, eventually taking refuge in a stranger’s car.

Currently playing county cricket for Nottinghamshire, Taylor was celebrating a fine victory over Durham. A little bit too much, perhaps.

Taylor reportedly slept off a hangover in West Bridgford resident Michael Whitaker’s Chevrolet.

“I had to do a double-take when I went to open the door,” told the Nottingham Post.

“I did not know what to do. Someone I didn’t know had fallen asleep in our car. An officer tried to wake him up and when he came round, he was dazed. It was the most bizarre situation I think I have ever been in.

“Neither myself, the police or Brendan knew what to do. I don’t think he knew where he was but he was very apologetic and it quickly became clear that it was very innocent.

“Realising who it was made it even funnier because how often do you find an international cricket star asleep in your car?”

Neither Nottinghamshire nor Taylor have said anything, publicly, about the comical incident.
