England all-rounder Moeen Ali has joined the Cape Town Blitz for the 2019 edition of the Mzansi Super League.
Ali will be available for the Blitz’s opening fixtures against the Jozi Stars at the Wanderers in Johannesburg and Paarl Rocks at Boland Park.
“Moeen brings huge international experience to the team and in county cricket. He won the T20 Blast in 2018 with the Worcestershire Rapids and he led them to the 2019 final, so we’re looking forward to having him in Cape Town,” said Blitz head coach Ashwell Prince.
Time at St Augustine Cricket Club
The 32-year-old Ali played for St Augustine Cricket Club in Western Province Cricket Association club competition several years ago. He hadn’t debuted for England at the time.
“Moeen is a great acquisition for us. He has an affinity for Cape Town and club cricket in the province going back a number of years. We’re looking forward to having a player of his quality for the start of the tournament,” added WPCA chief executive officer Nabeal Dien.

The left-handed Ali is effectively a temporary replacement for Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz, whose arrival in South Africa will be delayed.
“I’m very excited to be part of the MSL and joining Cape Town Blitz for the start of the tournament. I’m looking forward to playing with and against some world-class players,” concluded Ali.
