Former Proteas fast bowler Morne Morkel debuted for Manly Warringah District Cricket Club against Randwick Petersham Cricket Club at the Coogee Oval in Sydney, Australia, last week.
Morkel collected four wickets and conceded 24 runs in four overs.
Manly Warringah District Cricket Club lost the match despite his significant contribution.
“We unleashed what everyone was waiting for, the big South African who raised the average height considerably,” read a statement from the club.
Big Bash League, Caribbean Premier League, Pakistan Super League, T20 Blast and Global T20 Canada spinner Chris Green was among Morkel’s team-mates on the day.
“Morne is obviously coming towards the end of his wonderful cricket career and is keen to put back in at grassroots level,” Manly Warringah District Cricket Club president Andrew Fraser told Sporting News before the match.
“He has been absolutely incredible with his time since we started our association with him. He’s mentoring the young players at training and happily mingled with our sponsors and officials at our golf day, where he was our special guest.
