Batsman Garnett Tarr has returned to Northern Cape ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season in South Africa.

Tarr was the Knights’ fifth-highest run-scorer in the 2024-25 T20 Challenge, division one. He later represented South Africa Emerging in the One-Day Cup, division two, and hit two half-centuries.

“I think this is the move I need and it’ll be the best thing for me. I know Northern Cape, but this time around it’ll be a very different experience for me – and for the better,” Tarr told OFM.

Northern Cape recently appointed new head coach Mduduzi Mbatha. He was assistant coach at the Dolphins.

Mbatha has succeeded former Northern Cape head coach Mark Charlton, who joined the Warriors last year. Northern Cape assistant coach Deon Carolus was interim head coach prior to Mbatha’s appointment.

“I’m excited for this new journey, to work with coach Mbatha and just to be out there playing again. I am grateful for the opportunities the Knights have given me the past few seasons, but with that I’m also very excited for my new journey at Northern Cape,” added Tarr.

Northern Cape have also signed all-rounder Morne Venter from Limpopo, but lost seamer Hardus Viljoen, batsman Ruan Haasbroek, all-rounder Ernest Kemm and wicketkeeper-batsman Modiri Litheko to the Tuskers, Knights, Easterns and Warriors, respectively.
