Gary Kirsten becomes Pakistan’s limited-overs coach

Former Proteas and India head coach Gary Kirsten has been named Pakistan’s limited-overs coach ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup.

Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie has been named Pakistan’s Test coach.

“Gary’s coaching career has been marked by his ability to instill a winning mentality, develop young talent, and achieve success at the highest levels of the game, making him one of the most respected and sought-after coaches in cricket,” said Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

“Jason’s coaching career has been marked by success both at the domestic and international levels, with a focus on player development and achieving excellence in team performance.

“Their stellar track records precede them, and I warmly welcome them to the Pakistan cricket family.

“In this background, I have every confidence that their expertise will guide our players to reach new heights, aligning with their inherent talent and the expectations of our passionate fans.

“These high-quality appointments also present a remarkable opportunity for our players to glean insights from these seasoned professionals, refining their skills and fortifying their cricketing acumen.

Kirsten and Gillespie have succeeded former Pakistan head coach Grant Bradburn, who resigned earlier this year.

This year’s T20 World Cup will be played in the United States of America and the Caribbean. Pakistan have been pooled with India, Ireland, Canada and USA in group A.

Group B comprises England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman.

Group C has New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea and Uganda.

Group D comprises South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal.

England are the reigning T20 World Cup champions. They beat Pakistan in 2022’s final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.
