Former Proteas captain Graeme Smith has joined the Marylebone Cricket Club’s world cricket committee.

The MCC are effectively cricket’s lawmakers. The world cricket committee is an independent body of the MCC – and comprises current and former international cricketers, umpires and officials.

Smith is currently the commissioner of the ongoing SA20 – Cricket South Africa’s new domestic T20 tournament. He was previously CSA’s director of cricket.

He will join fellow new additions Justin Langer and Clare Conor on the MCC’s world cricket committee. Langer is Australia’s former head coach. Conor is the former president of the MCC.

Smith, Langer and Conor have effectively replaced former world cricket committee members Ricky Ponting and Brendon McCullum, who have resigned, and Shane Warne, who has passed away.

“All three will bring different insights to the game and their deep knowledge from the elite level will be hugely advantageous to the work of the committee. I am looking forward to hearing their contributions to the important discussions that we have planned.”
