The Cape Vikings have named Rondebosch Cricket Club all-rounder Alistair Gray captain for the inaugural Cape Premier League.

Gray was among the 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association premier league’s top 10 run-scorers and five highest wicket-takers. The veteran right-hander struck 525 runs and took 40 wickets in 20 matches.

He will lead a Cape Vikings squad that includes, among others, Bellville Cricket Club’s Daniel Childs, Brackenfell Cricket Club’s Mark Andrionatos and  Rondebosch Cricket Club team-mates Bradley Barnes and Tayo Walburgh.

The Hoeri Kwaggo Bulls, meanwhile, have appointed United Cricket Club batsman Qaasim Adams captain. Adams relished a superb stretch of form for Western Province in first-class and List A competition through February and March – and collected 130 not out, 100 and 96 against KwaZulu-Natal, Boland and Northerns, respectively.

He will lead a Bulls squad that includes, among others, Cape Town Cricket Club team-mates Clint Botha and Brendan Young, Claremont Cricket Club’s Mark Botha, Western Province Cricket Club’s Ryan Klein and Durbanville Cricket Club’s Kuda Samunderu.
