Former International Cricket Council and Cricket South Africa chief executive officer Haroon Lorgat became a life member of the Western Province Cricket Association this week.
Lorgat was CEO at the ICC from 2008 to 2012. He held the same position at CSA from 2013 to 2017.
“What’s good for me or what’s interesting for me, is that I’m sort of coming full circle. I started here at Western Province as an executive member, as we called it at the time,” Lorgat said during Wednesday’s WPCA annual general meeting at Newlands.
“The late Percy Sonn was the first person I served under – and later Arnold Bloch, who is here with us this evening. So this is a bit of a full circle for me to come back to Western Province cricket.
“Wherever I can assist, I will do my level best to support the WPCA and WPCA president Johannes Adams.”
Lorgat has also worked with the Pakistan Cricket Board, Sri Lanka Cricket – and was recently appointed National Cricket League commissioner in the United States of America.
“Haroon has been conferred life membership for his outstanding and longstanding service to cricket – and his commitment to the promotion and development of cricket in the Western Province,” read a statement from the WPCA.
“His contribution to the betterment of the game, both on and off the field, through leadership, support or voluntary service.
“This honour is conferred with immediate effect and entitles Haroon to fall the privileges associated with life membership as stipulated in the WPCA constitution.”
Meanwhile, non-independent directors Thulani Zideba and Shafiek Noordien were reappointed at this week’s WPCA AGM. Victoria Cricket Club chairman Egon Rushin was also in contention.
