Wicketkeeper-batter Babette de Leede was the Hoeri Kwaggo Bulls’ most expensive purchase at the recent Women’s Cape Premier League player auction.
The Bulls paid 1.8 million CPL dollars – the tournament’s fictional currency – for de Leede. This amounted to almost a third of the Bulls’ budget of six million.
De Leede has been capped at T20I and ODI level by Netherlands Women. She is among several players with international experience – from South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe – involved in the tournament.
Prior to the auction, the Bulls acquired quartet Nadima Khan, Doni Lin, Nita Janse van Heerden and Katie Seager.
The Cape Premier League has existed as a men’s tournament since 2019. The inaugural women’s CPL is scheduled to start in late September 2023.
