Hottentots Holland Cricket Club name Waleed Smith captain in WPCA first division B

Hottentots Holland Cricket Club have appointed batsman Waleed Smith first XI captain ahead of the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association season.

Smith has succeeded former captain Rasool Thomas, who will continue to play for Hottentots Holland Cricket Club.

“Hottentots Holland Cricket Club congratulate Waleed on his appointment. He has been a strong member since he started his career at the club,” said new club chairman Ibrahiem Sha, who was appointed earlier this month.

“We have seen him grow as a cricketer and person. We look forward to Waleed taking the club to greater heights.”

New head coach as well

Last month, Hottentots Holland Cricket Club appointed former Western Province first-class player Abdul-aziz Temoor head coach.

Temoor coached Hottentots Holland Cricket Club’s first XI following the exit of former head coach Yaasin Jakoet during the 2021-22 WPCA season. The appointment has since been made permanent.

Retention of WPCA first division B status

Hottentots Holland Cricket Club will compete in the 2022-23 WPCA first division B.

They achieved a fourth-place finish in the same league at the end of the 2021-22 season, with 12 wins and six losses.
