Former Proteas batsmen Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith were inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame this week.
Amla is the second-highest run-scorer for South Africa in Test cricket.
“It is an honour to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, especially alongside Graeme,” said Amla.
“The Hall of Fame includes some of the most celebrated players in the history of cricket, all of whom have big achievements. Such recognition feels surreal, and I am really thankful.”
Smith is South Africa’s third-highest Test run-scorer. He is also has the most wins as captain in the history of Test cricket, ahead of Australia’s Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh – and India’s Virat Kohli.
“It feels amazing to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame alongside some legendary cricketers, all of whom have made significant contributions to the game in their own way,” said Smith.
“This is also a proud moment for South Africa, as two of us have got recognition this year.”
Former Proteas cricketers AB de Villiers, Shaun Pollock, Jacques Kallis and Allan Donald were inducted into the ICC’s Hall of Fame in 2024, 2021, 2020 and 2019, respectively.
