Ottoman Cricket Club have recruited Indian batsman Aashim Kaushal for the remainder of the 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association season.
Kaushal debuted in Ottoman Cricket Club’s first premier league victory of the season, against Langa Cricket Club on 12 January.
“No matter where in the world, I always try give 100 percent in matches and practice sessions – and I am looking forward to playing on South African surfaces,” Kaushal told Club Cricket SA.
The 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman represented the Rajasthan Rangers in India’s northern premier league two years ago. He also played age-level cricket for Punjab.
“Ottoman Cricket club are keen on giving overseas players opportunities to play here, but often cannot afford these players who look for opportunities to earn some money during their off-season,” said club chairman Fareed Abrahams.
“Thanks to United Cricket club, we found Aashim, who is looking for opportunities to play abroad for the experience more than the money. The club had five players from Malaysia and one from Jersey in previous years.”
Jersey fast bowler Ben Kynman played for Ottoman Cricket Club in 2017.
Ottoman Cricket Club currently occupy 11th position in the premier league’s 12-team standings, after one win in 10 attempts.
