The Western Province Cricket Association have made changes to the brands of balls used for the premier league and Ama20 competition ahead of the 2022-23 season.
The Indwe Gold ball has replaced the Kookaburra Match ball in the WPCA premier league.
The Whacker Supreme ball will be used in the preceding Ama20 competition.
What the WPCA said
“We have had to review the supplier of the premier league 50-over and Ama20 balls for the ensuing season,” read a statement from the WPCA.
“The review was necessary due to the severe budgets experienced by WPCA and all cricket affiliates under the auspices of Cricket South Africa.
“The Kookaburra Match ball has now become unaffordable for the WPCA and an alternative ball has been tested and used for many seasons. The Ama20 ball has also been tested by the WPCA and has come highly recommended.
“The following balls will therefore be used in the various competitions – premier league 50-over: Indwe Gold; and Ama20 premier league: Whacker Supreme.
“These balls are the prescribed balls by the WPCA for the 2022-23 season and no other balls will be allowed in the respective competitions as per the by-laws.
“The performance of these balls will be closely monitored and an official review will be done. We thank clubs for the patience and understanding.”
